Committee Announces Reinforcements to Avoid Food Shortage at Rio-2016

After a first day full of problems, a large part of them in the Olympic Park's food services area, the Rio-2016 Committee announced reinforcements to assist with stock and food processing.

An additional hundred people are already working in the area of logistics for the cafeterias on the sites. The number of checkout points has also been increased.

On Saturday (6), many fans were surprised during lunchtime and other moments, when they tried to buy a meal and failed due to a shortage of food.

Around 8pm, the stores in the Arena of the Future, where the handball competition was taking place, closed and annoyed fans as a result.

According to the committee, the problem was related to the delays encountered by staff when trying to enter the facilities in the morning, after large lines had formed.

The group says less food than what was necessary was processed due to that situation, which made the food supply insufficient.
