Boxer Robson Conceição, 27, won on Tuesday (16) night an unprecedented gold medal for the Brazilian boxing.

Conceição, who is third-sergeant of the Navy, competed in the light weight category (60 kg), won his fourth fight in the Olympics and secured the top spot on the podium.

He beat Sofiane Oumiha, 21, from France, sixth in the world ranking, who had defeated Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu, the number two in the semifinals. Conceição won unanimously, but didn't win the third round.

Conceição is currently the fifth in the ranking. To get to the final, he had to defeat the number one, the triple world champion Jorge Lazaro Alvarez, 25, from Cuba.

He bounced back after being eliminated in his first fights at the Beijing -08 and London-12 Games.

The boxer from Bahia State delivered a faultless performance in Rio-16. He won all his fights by unanimous decision.

He won his first fight, against Anvar Yunusov, 29, from Tajikistan, by technical knockout after his opponent claimed injury and gave up the fight before the second round.

In the second fight, Conceição decided his track record against Uzbek Hurshid Tojibaev, 26, winning by unanimous decision in the opinion of the judges. The two had already faced each other on two other occasions, with a favorable outcome for each.

The third fight was the most exciting in the category. Conceição emerged victorious against the triple world champion Jorge Lazaro Alvarez, 26, from Cuba. In an evenly matched fight, the Brazilian only confirmed the victory in the final round.
