Lochte Apologizes on Social Networks, But Insists That Gun Was Pointed at Him

After Brazilian police concluded that swimmers from the United States made up the story of a robbery during the Rio Olympic Games, North American swimmer Ryan Lochte published an apology on social networks.

On Friday, the 19th, he said that he should have been "more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning", but reconfirmed that a gun was pointed in his direction.

"It's traumatic to be out late with your friends in a foreign country - with a language barrier - and have a stranger point a gun at you and demand money to let you leave", he declared.

Lochte had claimed to have been robbed at gunpoint last Sunday (the 14th) when he was returning from a party with three other swimmers. The police concluded that this in fact didn't happen and that the athletes lied when reporting the robbery.

"There has already been too much said [about] what happened last weekend, so I hope we spend our time celebrating the great stories and performances of these Games and look ahead to celebrating future successes" he concluded.
