FROM SÃO PAULO
In 2015, Rio de Janeiro will have 456 street carnival bands authorized by the municipality.
The first band to perform is "Eles que Digam" ("Let them Tell") in Santo Cristo neighborhood, downtown, next Saturday (17) at 4 pm.
In total, there will be 141 bands in South Rio; 94 downtown; 163 in the North side and 58 on the West side.
This year, there will be 24,525 toilets available.
In 2009, there were only 900. The number of hawkers allowed to sell alcohol has also increased from 5,000 to 7,000.
Riotur, the city's tourism company responsible for the party, says the street carnival will have a new logo representing the 450 anniversary of the founding of Rio.
