It´s Not the Time to Talk to Rousseff's Government, Says Former President Cardoso

FROM SÃO PAULO

Former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso issued a statement in which he says that "any non-public conversation with the federal government would appear to be a collusion in an attempt to save what shouldn´t be saved".

"The moment is not for the search of a rapprochement to the government, but to people", the text states, on the PSDB politician´s profile on a social network.

The speech is a response to criticism from other leaders within his party of the attempt of a rapprochement to former President Lula and the presidential Planalto Palace.

This articulation was disclosed by Folha on Thursday (23).

It has grown since President Dilma Rousseff´s ministers endorsed the action saying that a conversation between her and the former representatives would be natural.

On the first occasion, when sought for comments, Cardoso, who is on vacation, said by email that he would be willing to a meeting, since there was a public agenda.

Rousseff also tries to have an agenda with governors on behalf of governance.

Among the ones cited with deference by PT interlocutors is Geraldo Alckmin, from PSDB in São Paulo.

From the moderate wing of the party, Alckmin does not endorse offensives aiming Rousseff´s impeachment.

Senator José Serra (PSDB-SP) was also sought by PT to talk. Both Alckmin and Serra emerge as Aécio Neves´ internal rivals for PSDB presidential post in 2018.
