Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Thursday (3) that the "insanity" and the "madness" of the Lower House speaker Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ) cannot prevail in the debate over President Dilma Rousseff impeachment.

After meeting with the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Luiz Fernando Pezão (PMDB), the former President said he is "outraged" by the move.

Da Silva attacked Cunha. He declared the Lower House speaker made his decision to take revenge on the government after the Workers' Party decide to vote against him on the Lower House ethics committee.

"The impeachment [request] has no legal basis. It seemed the country was moving towards normality. On the day the President approves the fiscal target, she receives as a prize a gesture of insanity like this. We cannot allow that Cunha insanity prevails. [...] We cannot put the whole country under a corporate vision and personal revenge of the Lower House speaker, "he said.

Da Silva defended the Congress carried out the impeachment agenda as soon as possible. This would require the postponement of Congress recess, which has not been set yet.

"The country needs to grow again, and the reforms need to be voted in Congress. Or we're going to wait until after Christmas, Carnaval... What will be the political mood? Which entrepreneur will want to invest in the country? "he said.
