For his second international trip since he assumed permanent command of Brazil, President Michel Temer (PMDB) will not need to shell out funds to cover his stay in the city of New York which is to begin this Sunday (18).
The president will stay at the Plaza Athenee, where a room has already been paid for by the Brazilian government.
In April of this year, then president Dilma Rousseff reserved a suite at the hotel, but, at the last minute, decided to stay in the home of the UN (United Nations) ambassador to Brazil, Antônio Patriota, after he extended the invitation.
The former president's change of plans cost Brazil nearly US$ 60,000. Now, Temer will use the credit left behind by his predecessor at the American hotel.
When he discovered there was a credit at the luxury hotel, Temer decided to use it to avoid expending any more of his funds.
Next Tuesday (20), the president will make UN's General Assembly opening speech. He will cover the global economic scene, the concessions program he launched this week, climate change and UN reforms.
Brazil is the first country to deliver this address since 1949.
