A former Odebrecht employee Hilberto Mascarenhas told the TSE (Superior Electoral Tribunal) on Monday (6) that a department of the company operated around US$ 3,39 billion between 2006 and 2014 in illicit payments.
Between 15% and 20% of the amount financed Brazilian electoral campaigns in off-the-books transactions. Mascarenhas was an employee of Odebrecht's Sector for Structured Operations, known as the company's "bribery department".
He is one of the company's 78 plea-bargainers from the operation and testified in the proceeding under way at the TSE which is investigating the presidential ticket of 2014.
Mascarenhas also said that the construction company corrupted public officials in Angola and throughout Latin America.
He provided details of payments made to PT (Worker's Party) campaign marketers Duda Mendonça and João Santana.
Mascarenhas also provided additional details regarding the amounts managed by the department each year. The total amount started increasing during the second half of former president Lula's government, and only decreased in 2014, after being discovered by the so-called Lava Jato (Car Wash) Investigation.
