The Senate has postponed, once more, the vote that may lift the preliminary injunctions imposed by the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) on Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG).
According to the order issued by the first panel of court, Mr. Neves is suspended from office and is under house arrest at night, since last week.
The case was scheduled for analysis on Tuesday (3), however, it was postponed after the en banc court approved the request to reschedule the vote to the 17th.
"After the request is approved, we will allow the Supreme Court to review en banc a decision taken by one of their panels, otherwise the Senate may exercise its privileges to balance the brakes and counterweights [of our democracy]," said the president of the Senate, Eunício Oliveira (PMDB-CE).
The postponement was confirmed after the approval of a request filed by senator Antonio Carlos Valadares (PSB-SE), supported by 50 senators and rejected by 21.
FACHIN
STF's justice, Edson Fachin, denied a request from senator Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG) to return to office, on Tuesday (3). He was suspended from duties last week, by the justices of the first panel of the STF.
