Folha Launches New Fully Responsive Website

FROM SÃO PAULO

Folha launched its revamped digital version on Thursday (1). The evolution of the platform is the first milestone to celebrate the newspaper's 97th anniversary this month.

The changes are not only visual, but also technical.

The site is now fully responsive, that is, it automatically adapts to the size of phone, computer and tablet screens.

It also loads faster and consumes less data on mobile devices, enabling real time updates platform-wide.

These changes provide readers with cleaner layout and larger and exclusive font sizes, designed for Folha, to be used on different screens.

In addition to larger font types, which makes for a more comfortable reading experience, pictures, videos and infographics are also enlarged in articles and main pages.

A visual revamping of the printed version of the newspaper is also in the making, which should be implemented in coming months, so that the newspaper's identity may be recognized anywhere.

"More and more, Folha's readers will recognize the newspaper regardless of the platform," states executive editor, Sérgio Dávila.

ACCESSIBILITY

The new website was designed, from its source code to every detail, to be more accessible for visually impaired users.

Colors and contrast of black and white, for example, have been tested to make its navigation easier. Photographs now have text descriptions.

NEW PUBLISHING SYSTEM

Folha also has a new publishing system, called Gutenberg. It was fully developed in-house in order to optimize the work in the newsroom, so that our journalists can spend more time focusing on fact checking and writing.
