SPECIAL ENVOY TO BARCELONA
Brazilian companies' directors and recruiters in sectors such as banking and air travel, as well as industrial sectors, have been travelling to Europe seeking employees for their Brazilian staffs.
A study by Iese (Institute of Higher Business Studies) shows that, in Spain alone, the hiring of highly qualified Europeans more than doubled in five years.
Last week the institute held the first hiring fair of young professionals with MBAs exclusively for Latin American countries, where Brazilians were the majority.
Itaú, TAM, Gerdau, Votorantim and Gafisa sent representatives to interview some 150 MBA students soon to graduate.
"The growth of Latin America led to a labor shortage and now we have to seek aggressively," Walter Bayly, the CEO of Banco de Crédito, told Folha - he advises young Europeans to explore Latin America and Brazil.
The company representatives told Folha that since the economic crisis and recessions in Europe reduced investments in the local market, Brazilian companies have been going to Europe seeking labor that is a surplus in European countries and a shortage in Brazil.
They say the shortage is not in numbers but in profile: the interest in Europeans is because companies aim to make their businesses global, and expand them.
"We want a profile that Brazilians don't have. Now we are in Asia, America and Europe and we need the adequate expertise, we cannot use a Brazilian professional that won't fit," says Camila Miranda, Votorantim's talent manager. "That's why we make proposals above the market here."
