SPECIAL ENVOY TO CARACAS
Meeting in Caracas, Mercosur presidents, including Dilma Rousseff, gave speeches supporting Argentina dispute on funds that were not part of the debt restructuring from 2005 and 2010.
On Wednesday (30), the country could again suspend payments if there is no agreement with creditors.
"The problem affecting Argentina now is a threat not only to a brother country, it reaches the entire international financial system," Rousseff said.
"We can't allow the actions of a few speculators endanger the stability and welfare of entire countries."
"We need clear rules and a system that allows unbiased forums enabling predictability and, therefore, fairness in the debt restructuring process," said the president.
Dilma said that "Brazil's solidarity is not rhetoric," remembering the country acted as "amicus curiae" (Court friend) in a lawsuit filed by creditors against Argentina in the Supreme Court.
In her speech, the Argentine president, Cristina Kirchner, thanked the support of Mercosur colleagues and said the country will continue to pay creditors who accepted the negotiated debt restructuring in 2005 and 2010.
