RAUL JUSTE LORES
FROM WASHINGTON

Brazilian executive Carla Grasso will be the new Deputy Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Grasso was appointed on Wednesday (14) by IMF's Managing Director, Frenchwoman Christine Lagarde. She will start her work there on February 2.

The executive worked at the mining company Vale S.A. for 14 years and was the vice president when Roger Agnelli led the corporation.

She also was the executive coordinator of Aécio Neves' government plan, the PSDB defeated candidate for the presidency.

The position is new to the IMF, and Grasso will be its first occupant.

She will oversee the institution's administrative functions, from human resources to technology, by doing internal audits and general services.

The position is considered the IMF's third most important and has two associate directors.

"Carla brings outstanding leadership, a strategic mindset and strong operational management expertise", said Lagarde in a brief statement.

Grasso said at news briefing she was "excited" to return to Washington and to IMF where she worked in the beginning of her career.
