FROM SÃO PAULO

The Brazilian Alexandre Hohagen, Facebook's vice-president in Latin America, announced on Wednesday that he is leaving the company. He has been at Facebook since 2011, when he left Google to work at Mark Zuckerberg's social network.

In a message on his Facebook profile, Hohagen said that he wants to "pursue other dreams" and use his "experience and expertise to help young Latin American entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations."

Hohagen has already invested in at least one start-up in Brazil, MarketUP, which owns an online management system for small companies.

Hohagen was one of the first Brazilians hired by Google, soon after the company launched its operations in the country in 2005. He was Google president in Brazil, then director general and leader of operations in Latin America.

He moved to Facebook in 2011. In his farewell message, he recalls working at home. "I still remember asking my daughters to be quiet while I interviewed candidates who would join me on this incredible adventure", he said.

His replacement has yet to be announced. In a statement, Facebook said that the organization has begun to look for "someone new to lead our next phase of growth in Latin America. Alexandre has agreed to remain in his position until the transition is complete."
