The Brazilian Agriculture Minister, Blairo Maggi, declared on Monday (27) that an analysis of part of the products from meat processing plants that were impounded after the Carne Fraca (Weak Flesh) Operation revealed that "they don't present any type of danger to human health".
He confirmed that 174 samples were taken from products that came from the 21 processing facilities under investigation and that of this total, 12 products already have results that show that there is no risk for consumption.
"We are working fast to tell the population that there isn't, but if there were, we would say that too, but until now, no type of abnormality [has been found] that can cause harm to human health by consuming these products", declared the minister.
A temporary embargo imposed by Hong Kong and Qatar on Brazilian meat is the primary problem being confronted by exporters of Brazilian foul and pork, according to the trade association that represents industries in the sector.
Hong Kong was the third largest importer of meat (pork, beef and foul) from Brazil last year at US$ 1,6 billion, while Qatar was the 19th largest at US$ 113 million.
