After a reduction in March, job growth in the formal economy returned in April. The net difference between firings and new hires was 59,800 formally contracted positions, the best monthly result since 2014.
In March, the net result was a loss of 63,600 formal jobs, reversing an improvement in February when for the first time in 22 months there was a net gain, with the addition of 35,700 jobs.
In April of 2006, there was a net loss of 62,800 positions.
The only sector that eliminated significant positions was civil construction, which registered a loss of 1,700 jobs.
The sector which generated the most additional jobs was services, which added 24,700 new positions. The result was especially influenced by growth in medical & dental, transportation, communication and teaching positions.
"We are expecting positive results in May", said Labor Minister, Ronaldo Nogueira.
"The tendency is to continue creating new positions in Brazil, and we hope that this continues and establishes itself as a concrete trend", he declared.
