A more "cerebral" festival in literary terms, with experimental authors, and more open to mixing with other arts, to include on their panels filmmakers, musicians, architects and art historians. This is the profile of the 11th International Literary Festival of Paraty (FLIP), July 3-7.
The main attraction of the Authors' Tent will be the Frenchman Michel Houellebecq, the Goncourt Prize winner and author of "The Map and the Territory" (Record), who had confirmed his appearance at Flip 2011, but ended up canceling.

Miguel Conde, curator of the festival for the second time, pointed out the "dialogue and hybridism between different arts " as a characteristic of this year's program, which will have panels with filmmakers Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Eduardo Coutinho, in addition to Maria Bethânia and Gilberto Gil.
Among the authors who have not yet been announced are the American Tobias Wolff, who will share a panel with the Norwegian Karl Ove Knausgard, and the Italian writer and publisher Roberto Calasso, in a discussion with Jeanne Marie Gagnebin, the Swiss philosopher living in Brazil.
The Irishman John Banville, winner of the Man Booker Prize in 2005, who will share a panel with the American short story writer Lydia Davis, was announced on Wednesday as the winner of the Man Booker International Prize in 2013.
In total, there will be 23 Brazilians in the Authors' Tent, the highest number since the start of FLIP (in two years there have been 22 authors from the country). Honored this year, Graciliano Ramos (1892-1953) will be the subject of three panels, including the opening session by Milton Hatoum.
The event will have a budget of R$8.6 million (US$ 4.19 million), slightly higher than the previous year (US$ 4 million). The admission price also increased: in the Authors' Tent, with a capacity of 850 people, it will cost R$46 (US$ 22.4), compared to R$40 (US$ 19.48) in recent years.
