SPECIAL ENVOYS TO PARATY
The most important literary event in the country, the International Literary Festival of Paraty (FLIP), opened on Wednesday (the 26th). The event is held annually and hosts national and international writers.
Organizers had bet on a change in format for this year's opening and that bet paid off. Instead of a traditional conference, historian Lilia Moritz Schwarcz and actor Lázaro Ramos gave a dramatized performance class on Lima Barreto, the author being honored at this year's edition.
Under the direction of Felipe Hirsch, the duo moved the audience to laughter with their intensive lesson prepared for those who aren't familiar with the work of the author.
Not incidentally, the audience hooted, laughed uproariously and applauded extensively at the end of the scene, when Lázaro and Lilia left the church, where the paying audience was seated, and moved towards the big screen, the free admission section.
The duo was received with shouts of "Out with Temer" from the audience.
"If Lima Barreto were here, he would also be shouting "Out with Temer", the actor said as he climbed onto the stage.
The scene alternated between Lilia's narration about Lima's life and readings by Lázaro that provided illustration for the presenter's speech - from the date of his birth, seven years before Abolition, until the launching of the work after his death.
The actor was cheered by the big screen tent when he read "A Politica Republicana" (The Republican Politics), a chronicle in which Lima Barreto criticizes national politics.
