Rapper Emicida to Write a Cine Biography of His Ten-Year Career

Emicida is going to the movies. Actually, that is, to the cinema's silver screen. The São Paulo rapper is going to play himself in a film to be launched next year. The production is by Brazilian Rodrigo Teixeira, who recently gained major visibility after producing "Call Me by Your Name" - which received four nominations and won the Oscar for best screenplay adaptation.

The script for the Project with Emicida is expected to be ready by the end of this month. The plan is to shoot the film between November and January.

"My goal is to internationalize the film, but the financing is Brazilian", said Teixeira. "One of the reasons that I've been running from this biography thing is that I always thought that it was an old-guy parade, man. I haven't lived all of this yet", he continued.

He agreed to do the film on the condition that it would concentrate on the first years of his career. "You can make a cut, a splash during a period. So, looking at it this way, I think we have a very important story in Brazil's recent history."

Emicida realizes that a film about the beginning of his career presents a certain dilemma: appealing to a wider audience while being careful not to overplay the explanations or patronize, to avoid retelling something well known to fans that followed it ten years ago.
