FROM SÃO PAULO
To facilitate the sale of the Interlagos race track in São Paulo's southern zone, 58-year-old engineer Wilson Poit, the future secretary of Privatization and Partnerships of the João Doria (PSDB) administration, has agreed that the locale's owner will be able to "eventually" construct residential buildings beside the circuit, which has to be preserved.
In an interview with Folha, Poit, a member of the Partido Novo (New Party), said that an additional draw would be the possibility of building a shopping mall, restaurants and hotels in the privatized space, which he considers to be "a jewel" for shows and events as well.
Poit worked for nearly two years in the business and administrative areas for the Fernando Haddad (PT) administration.
Now, he will lead privatizations and concessions for Doria, principal campaign promises of the PSDB leader.
He agrees with the idea of the Pacembu stadium, under private management, getting a roof and housing other kinds of events in addition to soccer.
Regarding the Ibirapueura park, he says that the revenue from whomever takes over "will come from parking, the food and beverage area, and from a really cool restaurant, from bicycles and shows".
