Women March in São Paulo against Sexism and Social Security Reform

On Wednesday (8), the International Women's Day, the Women's March became a demonstration in the streets of the central region of São Paulo, with flags supporting the legalization of abortion and against the Social Security reform, sexism and violence against women.

The demonstration grew as state and municipal teachers joined the marchers - both groups of teachers decided to go on strike as of Wednesday, March 15.

Psychologist Juliana Sanches, 27, came from Mongaguá, in the state's coastal region to join the demonstration in São Paulo. "We live in a violent male-dominated system that oppresses us every day, and we have to face a wave of repression at national and world levels," says Sanches. "It is crucuial to march now, more than ever."

Sanches held a poster that read "Sex when I desire it, pregnancy when I decide." And another with "Out, Temer," a sentence repeated in posters and chants throughout the demonstration.
