São Paulo to Remove 2,000 Posts From Sidewalk, Placing 52 Km Worth of Cables Underground

FROM SÃO PAULO

São Paulo plans to place approximately 52 kilometers worth of cables underground, gradually removing from the sidewalk the slightly-more-than 2,000 posts which currently support the wiring that transmits electricity as well as phone, cable and internet services around the city.

Placing all the cables that run along São Paulo's streets and avenues underground would help avoid blackouts caused by rainstorms and wind, while also making the city look nicer.

A partnership was struck up between the administration of mayor João Doria (PSDB), the electricity concessionaire AES Eletropaulo and approximately 20 other telecommunications companies.
