FIFA's general secretary, Jerome Valcke, said on Monday that the organization is not worried about possible protests and the political climate next year, when Brazil helds elections in October, because he thinks people will be more interested in the World Cup than in the election campaign.
"Brazil has shown a great team at the Confederations Cup [champion] and I'm sure there will be great support. The last time Brazil had a World Cup was in 1950, this does not happen all the time," said Valcke.
He is in Brazil inspecting the stadiums for 2014 World Cup and, accompanied by Minister Aldo Rebelo (Sports) and former players Ronaldo and Bebeto, visited road works in Porto Alegre (RS) and the Beira-Rio stadium. Then he went to Cuiabá (MT).
"[One of the reasons for the visits] is to put pressure on, to show that we are following up with the project and we're not just sitting in Zurich [federation headquarters]," he said.
