Dunga's Anti-Marketing Discourse Aimed at David Luiz

The discourse of the new technical committee of the Brazilian national soccer team, which gives priority to the collective and not to individuals, has a target: David Luiz.

Folha learned that the "messages" against personal marketing made by new coach Dunga and national team coordinator Gilmar Rinaldi are not directed at Neymar, but at the most expensive defender in the history of soccer.

Hired for US$ 67 million by Paris Saint-Germain before the World Cup, the former Chelsea defender is at risk of missing out on the call for the games against Colombia (Sept. 5) and Ecuador (Sept. 9) in the US.

If called, he will have to understand the philosophy of "all for one and one for all."

During the time between the Confederations Cup (in June 2013) and the World Cup, David Luiz transformed into the most charismatic player of Brazil's team.

His characteristic hair, "good guy" demeanor and the fact that he never turns down a request for an autograph or interview have made him especially loved by children.

After Neymar and former coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, he was the one who starred in the most commercials.

However, David Luiz's starring role proved harmful in the analysis of the technical commission and of the CBF board, on and off the field.

Off the field because he removed the idea of collectivity, turning the group into a team of only two players.

On the field, there are two examples. During the semifinal against Germany, it did not please the new commission that David Luiz started took to the field wearing number 10, which usually belongs to Neymar - who had already left the competition after suffering an injury to the spine - during the singing of the national anthem.

Gilmar criticized the fact that the group exalted Neymar's absence and did not give power to his substitute, Bernard.

Against the Netherlands, for third place, criticism was directed at David Luiz's desire to fix things alone.

He was sent to the attack and was the worst on the field, according to the evaluation of the new leader.
