Dunga's First Call Up Has 10 World Cup Players

FROM SÃO PAULO

There is no devastated land after losing 7 to 1 to Germany in the World Cup, the worst in the history of the Brazilian national team, and 3 to 0 to the Netherlands in the third place match at Brazil's World Cup.

That was the message given by coach Dunga after announcing his first call up after the Brazil's fourth place at the 2014 World Cup. The national team will face Colombia, on September 5, and Ecuador, September 9, both in the United States.

Ten players from Luiz Felipe Scolari's team were called by Dunga this Tuesday morning (19), in the auditorium of CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) headquarters, in Rio.

And it might have been 11, half of the 22 players, if Thiago Silva had not injured his right leg in the friendly match from Paris Saint-Germain last week.

It is a number that is higher than the average from the previous World Cup remaining five usually called during the first list after failing.

"You can't change everything all the time. You can't claim this is a devastated land. If you look at the last semifinals of the European Champions League, there were more than ten Brazilians. We have quality players," said Dunga, who returns to lead the team four years after losing to the Netherlands in the World Cup quarterfinals.

Besides the goalkeeper Jefferson and the right-back Maicon, at the World Cup participated also defender David Luiz, and midfielder defenders Luiz Gustavo, Fernandinho and Ramires and Willian and Oscar, midfielders, and Hulk and Neymar forwards.

In the list, only three players had never defended the main team: defender Gil, from Corinthians, and Éverton Ribeiro and Ricardo Goulart, from Cruzeiro.
