COLLABORATION FOR FOLHA FROM SANTOS

Pele's son and former goalkeeper Edson Cholbi Nascimento, nicknamed Edinho, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon (18) at Praia Grande Forum (São Paulo coast).

Edinho was sentenced to 33 years and four months in prison in May 2014 for money laundering from drug trafficking.

He was informed of the arrest while complying with a directive order to report monthly to court.

São Paulo Court of Justice informed the ruling was issued by Suzana Pereira da Silva, judge at the first Criminal Court of Praia Grande as his appeal submitted on May 30 was rejected.

He was not granted the right to appeal in freedom.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Edinho is in custody at Santos 5º Police Department where he awaits to be transferred to a prison unit.

Eugene Malavasi, his lawyer, said he will prepare an application for habeas corpus requesting the invalidity of the warrant.

The defence argument is the appeal against conviction was made within the time limit.
