FROM SÃO PAULO
The three times world champion Pelé, 74, has been hospitalized since Wednesday (May 6th) at the Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo, where he underwent prostate surgery.
After screening tests, the former player was subjected to a transurethral resection of the prostate - a procedure where an instrument is inserted into the urethra to remove part of the prostate that is obstructing the natural flow of urine.
The operation is advised when the prostate enlarges and begins to negatively affect the urethra, making it difficult or even impossible to eliminate urine.
According to the hospital, surgery was simple and there were no complications.
His readmission to hospital in São Paulo comes nearly six months after a medical procedure weakened his health. In November, the King of Football had to be hospitalized twice due to problems in the urinary system.
