With the vice-president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) José Maria Marin under arrest on corruption charges, the organization says that it will revise any contracts involved in the scandal currently being investigated by the American Department of Justice.
The American authorities allege that agreements with Traffic and Nike involved the payment of bribes to executives and intermediaries.
Walter Feldman, secretary-general of the CBF, told Folha that the agreements will be revised. "This is something that Marco Polo Del Nero [current CBF president] has ordered ever since he took over," he said.
Before assuming the presidency of the CBF, Del Nero was vice-president during the administration of José Maria Marin, who is currently under arrest in Switzerland. Before that, he was an ally of Ricardo Teixeira, CBF president until 2012, when he resigned amidst corruption accusations.
On Wednesday (27), Del Nero defended his vice-president and said that any contracts being investigated by the American authorities were signed during the Teixeira administration.
"The contracts were signed before Marin's administration, there is nothing afterwards. I know the contracts," he said.
When asked by Folha if Marin's arrest alongside another six FIFA executives tarnished the reputation of the CBF, Del Nero was frank: "Well it's not good, is it? Of course not, it's terrible, but we'll just have to see what happens."
