FROM CAMPINAS
The city of Campinas, in São Paulo state, may create a holiday to recall the day Brazil's national team was defeated by 7-1 to the Germans in the 2014 World Cup.
The author of this bill, councilman Jota Silva (Brazilian Socialist Party, PSB), the same party as the Mayor Jonas Donizetti, is under discussion and has yet to be voted on.
Under the proposal, every July 8 will be remembered for the defeat.
The councilman said that the idea behind this project is to discuss football.
"If we call it something else, such as Soccer Day, it would not draw so much attention," the parliamentarian said.
The councilman said he believed he will not find any problems to pass the bill, which will be sanctioned by the mayor. Donizetti is on vacation and should return to the mayor's office next week.
Jota Silva took Councilman mandate this year as a substitute of Lauro Luiz Filho, who was elected federal deputy for the Brazilian Socialist Party. He was a parliamentarian in the city between 2001-2008.
