Brazil Ejected from Copa America in Worst Performance Since 1923

FROM SÃO PAULO
With one draw, one loss and one win, Brazil was eliminated from the Copa America Centenario on Sunday (12). Its performance rate was just 44.4%. This is the worst result for the Brazilian team since the 1923 tournament.
93 years ago when the competition was known as the South American Championship, the Brazilian team lost all three of their first-round matches. It was defeated by Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay, to come in last place on the score table.
The 1987 tournament, held in Argentina, proved another fiasco for Brazil. In the first stage of the competition the team beat Venezuela 5-0, but were forced to leave Buenos Aires after losing 4-0 to Chile.
In 1987 the Copa America had just two matches in the opening round, with a win scoring two points. Brazil earned two out of a possible four points, meaning its performance rate was 50%. The two points per win scoring system was maintained until 1994. From 1995 the winning team earned 3 points.
This year, at the tournament held in the USA, the Brazilian team led by manager Dunga won four points out of the total nine, a performance rate of just 44.4%.
This was a bitter result for Brazil, who were eliminated in the first round, just like the fated 1987 tournament.
The elimination threatens Dunga's management. This Tuesday (14), the trainer will meet with Marco Polo Del Nero, the Brazilian Football Federation President. The meeting will no doubt define the manager's future.
