SPECIAL ENVOY TO RIO

After nearly twenty-fours of expectations, at the end of Wednesday afternoon, June 15, Tite was confirmed as the new coach of Brazil's national soccer team.

Tite, who is 55 years old and was born in Rio Grande do Sul, faced the opposition of the head of the CBF (Brazilian Soccer Confederation), Marco Polo Del Nero.

However, Tite benefited from the Del Nero's loss of status and managed to bring several of his colleagues to comprise the coaching staff, including his boss.

The soccer manager of Corinthians, Edu Gaspar, also was hired by the CBF and will substitute Gilmar Rinaldi, who was the coordinator of the national teams before Wednesday.

The coordinator of the national teams is a position hierarchically above that of the coach.

The hiring of Tite was surprising as he has often criticized Del Nero.

In December 2015, soon after José Maria Marin was arrested and Del Nero was indicted in the U.S., Tite signed a public document in favor of Del Nero's resignation from his position.

After refusing four inquiries by CBF representatives, Tite believed that Del Nero would fall sooner or later. If a new president took Del Nero's position, Tite certainly would be called. However, Tite realized that Del Nero would stay in office despite the investigations.

Tite decided that this would be his opportunity – there might not be another chance.

Del Nero is investigated by the FBI, two Parliamentary Commissions of Investigation (CPI) in Brazil, and by Fifa, the world's governing body of soccer. He is accused of benefiting from a bribery scheme connected to the sales of the rights to competitions in Brazil and abroad.

Accused by the investigations, Del Nero lost even more status as the Brazilian soccer team was defeated in several matches. A new winning run by the soccer team would help to minimize the criticism Del Nero has been facing.

Tite was world champion as the coach of Corinthians and will arrive at the CBF headquarters officially on Thursday, June 16, with the mission of classifying the national team to the 2018 World Cup to be held in Russia. The team has had a series of bad results since the shameful elimination from the 2014 World Cup.

With Dunga as its coach, the Brazilian team lost two editions of Copa América and is currently out of the classification zone for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

On Tuesday, June 14, Dunga was fired soon after he arrived from the U.S. On Sunday, June 14, the Brazilian team was eliminated from Copa América Centenário after a 1-0 defeat to Peru in Boston.

Tite's first match as the new coach will be against Ecuador in September, in which Brazil will be the visitor.

OLYMPIC TEAM

Although the CBF has not confirmed that Tite will occupy the position, it announced Rogério Micale as the coach of the Brazilian Olympic team that will play in the event in Rio de Janeiro.

On Wednesday, June 16, Micale signed the list with the 35 pre-selected players for the tournament which was sent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
