Neymar Jr., the most valuable player in the history of soccer, had a contract with the Globo network during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The contract, which lasted at least until 2015, stipulated that the soccer star had to collaborate with the network.
The partnership did not prevent the athlete from talking to other outlets, but it did give Globo a series of privileges such as gaining first-hand access to information and exclusive interviews, among others.
Neymar Jr.'s advisors were aware of his contract with the TV network.
Folha gained access to the documents which were attached to a confidential 6,342-page lawsuit that is being tried, in which companies belonging to Neymar Jr.'s father are being sued. Messages between members of the soccer star's staff discuss the partnership.
"The aforementioned contract no longer exists. Signed in 2014, the contract referred to special appearances that Neymar would make both on the broadcaster's shows and campaigns, as well as the use of audiovisual content the player produced", said Globo's communications department.
When asked to comment, Neymar, who currently plays for French squad Paris Saint-Germain, said he had nothing to say on the matter. Neither party disclosed the amounts surrounding the contract.
