The CBF Will Double Sponsorships and Posts Record Revenues

The Brazilian national team will reap more than US$120 million for the CBF this year from World Cup sponsorship alone.

With almost double the sponsors compared to the tournament in South Africa, the organization will earn three times more than the leading club, Corinthians, captured from advertisers within the country.

The team from São Jorge Park is estimated to receive US$39 million this year from sponsors of its uniform and from Nike.

The flood of sponsorship for the national team almost surpasses the gross revenue of the CBF in its last balance sheet, when it made US$155 million in 2012.

The confederation has already collected 14 sponsors and will invoice at least US$139 million in 2014. But the windfall could rise by the end of the year.

Chevrolet longs for Volkswagen's place and made a proposal earlier this year. The value comes close to US$7 million.

Executives from the organization have yet to close deals with Chevrolet because of the high penalty of the current contract with Volkswagen, which is currently at US$4 million. The penalty would exceed US$13 million.

Last year alone, the CBF closed sponsorship deals with Unimed Health Insurance, (Brazilian food company) Sadia and language school EF EnglishTown.

Of the 14 partners, only Nike stamps its logo on the team's jersey. Because of this, the company pays the largest share, US$35 million. Adorning the national team jersey since 1996, the U.S. multinational is the organization's oldest sponsor.

The other sponsors are entitled to place banners behind athletes during interviews or display advertising banners at practices. Only Itaú, Vivo, AmBev and Sadia have their logos on the workout uniforms as well.

Outside the 14 sponsors, (deodorant company) Tênis Pé Baruel and Parmigiani watches also have an agreement with the CBF. Both companies pay less and are classified as "supporters".

According to the latest financial statement released, Parmigiani paid US$770,000. Baruel has already shelled out US$820,000.

The record sponsorship amount was fueled by the higher dollar. In 2013 alone, the U.S. dollar reported an appreciation of 15.3%.

Under the system, companies pay in reais the dollar value at the due dates for contracts.

In South Africa in 2010, the national team played in the World Cup with ten sponsorships. Four years before, in Germany, the team only had four.
