LUIZA SOUTO
COLLABORATION FOR FOLHA, FROM RIO

Rio locals and tourists intending to spend New Year's Eve 2011/2012 in Rio de Janeiro can already start planning. Almost all the traditional end of the year events are already set and aim to please those who don't want to drink or spend money, and also those fans of an original samba.

To begin with, in Copacabana, one of the largest fireworks displays in the world will have the samba of Beth Carvalho as background music.

She will be among the attractions at the Copacabana New Years Eve festival, in the southern part of the city, together with the singer Latino who will take the main stage in front of the Copacabana Palace Hotel at 10:30 PM.

All of the concerts are free. Riotur, responsible for the events, should disclose the schedule in the coming days, on the site www.rio.rj.gov.br/web/riotur.

For those who think that the consumption of alcoholic beverages is not the decisive factor in happiness and also do not want to spend money, the Israeli Brazilian Club, two blocks from Copacabana Beach, is promoting New Year's Without Alcohol Rio 2012 (www.reivellonsemalcool.com.br; 0/xx/21/3023-3326), with concerts and light menus, with coconut and mineral water, in addition to tropical juices.

Among the attractions, which begin at 9 PM, are Davi Moraes and Moraes Moreira. There will be a lottery at the site of the event for 1500 tickets starting on December 3.

For those who want to enjoy something besides the fireworks, the Copacabana Fort New Year's (www.reveillonfortedecopacabana.com.br; 0/xx/21/3023-3326) is a temptation. Those present will have as a view the beaches of south Rio, the Sugarloaf and the Cagarras islands.

In its second year, the event will have concerts by Roupa Nova and the band Portela, among other attractions. Prices start at R$540.
