FROM BRASÍLIA
On Tuesday (13), a month after Donald Trump's victory, President Michel Temer called the president-elect of the United States to discuss a common economic agenda between the two countries.
In the conversation, it was agreed that the Brazilian and American economic teams will have meetings, starting in February, after Trump's inauguration, to elaborate initiatives to increase the bilateral relations between the two countries.
It was not agreed in the phone call, however, an eventual meeting between the two presidents. Temer emphasized that Brazil has interests in more American investments, and that Brazilian executives intend to continue investing in the United States.
According to reports, Trump lamented the plane crash that killed Chapecoense's players and management team last month and congratulated Temer for implementing reforms to restore growth in Brazil.
In the weeks following his election, Trump phoned some world leaders, but left the Brazilian president out of the list.
His victory took the Planalto Palace by surprise. The federal government, including the Foreign Affairs minister, José Serra, wanted Democrat Hillary Clinton to win the election.
