Bolsonaro Completes First 100 Days Worn and Politically Isolated

President plans to restructure the government in the coming weeks

Brasília

"I live under house arrest without an electronic ankle brace.” This phrase, repeated by Jair Bolsonaro to define the daily life of a president, summarizes the political isolation he created in his first hundred days.

In this period, completed on Wednesday (10),  he failed to form an allied base, faced problems with his children, traveled little around the country, surrounded himself with extreme ideological cronies and confined himself to social networks, where he created constant polemics.

After three months marked by stumbles and conflicts, the president has begun restructuring the government, and it should intensify next week.

His plans are to develop a better communication strategy, change the leadership of various Ministries and exchange in the team of parliamentary articulation.

Most changes will affect members of an extreme ideological group that he has surrounded himself with. This group, many of whom follow the teachings of Olavo de Carvalho, has been responsible for most of the political crises in the first three months. Bolsonaro plans to prioritize a more pragmatic view of public management.

Under the banner of what he calls a "new policy," the president failed to create a dialogue with party leaders and he developed a fragile relationship with Congress, putting at risk one of the priorities of his mandate: the approval of the Social Security reform.

To overcome the weakness, he intends to create a political council with leaders and presidents of the parties, and begin dialoguing with the parliamentarians.

Despite a turbulent start, members of the President's team say he is convinced he has not made any big mistakes---the exception being a video featuring obscene images on social networks—dubbed the “golden shower.".

After Bolsonaro received negative repercussions from the left and right, he met with his assistants and acknowledged that he had erred and erased the publication.
