Bolsonaro Called Glenn Greenwald A "Trickster" for Marrying Brazilian Man

"Maybe hell do some time in jail here in Brazil", President Bolsonaro said

Rio de Janeiro

President Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) joked on Saturday (27) that the American journalist Glenn Greenwald "maybe he'll do some time in jail here in Brazil."

Greenwald is the founder of The Intercept Brazil, which recently published leaked messages between minister Sergio Moro and Lava Jato prosecutors.

Bolsonaro also said that Greenwald and Federal Representative David Miranda (PSOL-RJ) are "rogues" for marrying and adopting two children in Brazil.

The president referred to an ordinance published by Moro on Friday (26), which establishes a summary rite of deportation of foreigners considered "dangerous" or who have performed an act "contrary to the principles and objectives outlined in the Federal Constitution."

"He [Glenn] does not fit the ordinance, because he is married to another man and has adopted boys in Brazil. Trickster, trickster [malandro], to avoid such a problem, marries another trickster and adopts a child in Brazil. That's the problem he doesn't go away, he can be calm. Maybe he'll go to jail in Brazil; he won't go outside," the president said.

Glenn Greenwald told Folha that the president's statement about his eventual arrest makes no sense. "Contrary to what Bolsonaro wants, we don't have a dictatorship, we have a democracy, and arresting someone needs to show evidence that the person you want to arrest has committed a crime."
