Quarter of Enrollees Fail to Show Up for First Part of College Admissions Exam, Says Minister
In the digital evaluation, abstention reached 46%; in total, 808,000 did not attend the exam
The first day of Enem 2021, held this Sunday (21), registered a 26% absentee rate. Of the expected 3.1 million applicants, 808 thousand did not attend the exam. The data were released tonight at a press conference in Brasília by the minister of Education, Milton Ribeiro, and by the president of Inep (National Institute of Educational Studies and Research), Danilo Dupas Ribeiro.
In the printed test, abstention was 25.5%. In the digital application, which had 69,000 confirmed entries, the absentee rate was 46.1%. Thus, 2.3 million subscribers took the test. In the last edition of the exam, more than half were absent. The test had been carried out amid the increase in Covid-19 cases in the country. Despite the high rate of absences, Ribeiro classified the exam as a success. He did it again this year, even with a low number of subscribers and gifts.
"I believe that Enem was a success. We had only 24% abstention [the correct number released is 26%] still in the pandemic period. For us it is a significant number."
