The State of SP Confirms Two Cases of the Coronavirus Variant Recently Identified in the United Kingdom

The infected ones are a 25-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man who had contact with her

São Paulo

The state of São Paulo has registered the first two cases, in Brazil, of the variant of the new coronavirus identified at the end of 2020 in the United Kingdom. The information is from the State Health Department of SP.

The information was confirmed by the Strategic Laboratory of the Adolfo Lutz Institute, linked to the department, after the genetic sequencing of samples sent by the private laboratory Dasa was concluded on Saturday (2).

One of the people infected with this new variant of the virus is a 25-year-old woman who lives in São Paulo and got infected after having contact with travelers who passed through British territory recently. She started showing symptoms on December 20, such as headache, sore throat, cough, nausea, and loss of taste, so she took a PCR exam on December 22.

The other infected person is a 34-year-old man, and the epidemiological surveillance team is investigating the history of the case, as well as his place of residence and symptoms.

The epidemiological investigation into both cases is ongoing and, for that reason, there are no further details about the clinical scenario and symptoms presented by the patients.
