Rebeca: 'It's Not Just about Beating Simone, It's about Beating Myself'

Gymnast says not making the podium in the previous beam event did not affect her performance on the floor

Besides the balance necessary to execute acrobatics in the air and land firmly on the ground, gymnast Rebeca Andrade also emphasized this Monday (5) the importance of mental balance to handle the pressure during competitions.

Rebeca won the floor event, beating the American legend Simone Biles in the final, who had just four days earlier won her second Olympic all-around championship, where the Brazilian won silver.

"I think it's not just about beating Simone, it's about beating myself. My fight is in my head, it's not with other people. To be able to perform my routines, I need to control my mind, my body, and that's the fight because Simone and I encourage each other, we want to give our best, so my fight is always with myself," Rebeca said in a conversation with journalists after securing her second Olympic gold.
