SEVERINO MOTTA
FROM BRASÍLIA

Deputy Attorney General Ela Wiecko sent the Supreme Federal Court (STF) an indictment against deputy Jair Bolsonaro (PP-RJ) for publicly inciting rape.

The report was based on statements made during a plenary session and in an interview to the newspaper "Zero Hora".

Bolsonaro said he would not rape deputy Maria do Rosário (PT-RS) because she does not deserve it.

"By saying he would not rape her because she does not 'deserve it', he suggested with his words that a man can rape a woman of his choice if he understands she deserves to be raped", says the Prosecutor responsible for the case.

The indictment also mentions the crime of incitement has lower offensive potential and that it would be possible to be punished with sentencing alternatives.

However, due to the publicity of the case, she did not make such request.

"Although the crime is of lower offensive potential, sentencing alternatives were not requested", says the prosecutor.

Bolsonaro's statements motivated several Parties to request his impeachment as they believe he breached the parliamentary decorum.

The processes, however, should only be concluded next year, in the next parliamentary term.

Bolsonaro was not found to comment on the indictment.
