Many people in the higher ranks of presidential candidate Fernando Haddad's campaign are having trouble with the law. They have been denounced in unfoldings from Operation Carwash or have pending litigations, such as arraignments or lawsuits demanding reimbursements to the public coffers.

For campaign treasurer, Haddad chose former São Paulo councilman Francisco Macena, his co-defendant in an electoral lawsuit for a suspect slush fund in Haddad's mayoral campaign in 2012.

Sergio Gabrielli, former president of Petrobras, is the campaign's chief of staff. He is the defendant in lawsuits claiming impropriety during his time at the state company.

Gilberto Carvalho, another high-ranking member in the campaign team, is a defendant accused of passive corruption for supposedly having accepted a R$ 6 million (US$ 750,000) in bribes to help car manufacturers.

Former minister Ricardo Berzoini, also working in Haddad's campaign, was investigated in the corruption probe nicknamed "PT's great gang"("quadrilhão do PT)

Haddad's campaign released a statement saying that all mentioned lawsuits and civil actions are based on illations, and none of the campaign members have been considered guilty in the legal proceedings.
