A man was arrested for stealing a gold chain in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro. To avoid getting caught red-hand, he swallowed the necklace and claimed innocence. But an X-ray proved that he had in truth stole the object.

According to the police, a Spanish tourist requested police assistance on Saturday (20th) afternoon. He said that his gold chain had been stolen and thief swallowed it. Witnesses corroborated the tourist's account.

The police officers found a suspect and brought him to a nearby public clinic in Copacabana. There, he underwent an X-ray exam that showed the chain in his abdomen area and was immediately arrested for theft.

The gold chain was recovered and returned to its owner. The police informed that the suspect already had a pending warrant for his arrest, but didn't specify for what kind of crimes.
