'I Started To Filter Him,' Says Bolsonaro About Son's Statements On Social Media

At breakfast with a group of journalists, the president said that his children don't have the government

Brasília and São Paulo

President Jair Bolsonaro said he regrets that recordings of his conversations with former minister Gustavo Bebianno have leaked to the press and that his sons don't have any say in how he governs the country.

The president commented on both episodes during a breakfast meeting with journalists in his official residence, which UOL attended.

"None of my sons influence my administration, there's no such thing," he said.

Bolsonaro also said that he now vets all public statements from his son Carlos that relate to the federal government. "I started to filter everything," he said.

"I regret what happened [to Bebianno] but I couldn't have acted diferently," he said, comparing the episode to a divorce. "It's almost like a marriage that unfortunately ended too soon."

Later, Carlos Bolsonaro went to Twitter to blame the press for what his father said. The breakfast meeting with journalists was a good will gesture requested by the president himself, aides said. Folha was not invited.
