Pro-Government Demonstrations Fail to Pack Protest Sites but Still Exceed Expectations

President Jair Bolsonaro mobilized people through social media

São Paulo and Brasília

Sunday's pro-government protests exalted the projects promoted by ministers Sergio Moro (Justice) and Paulo Guedes (Economy) and criticized politicians like the chamber's President, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ) and centrist politicians.

The protests were promoted by president Jair Bolsonaro (PSL), who, despite not attending and maintaining his distance from them, mobilized people by sharing social media images that said, "message to those who persist in old practices."

Amid the push of right-wing groups and the fear of Bolsonaro's failure in the first months of his term, thousands of people went to the streets in more than 140 cities, exceeding the expectations of those aligned with the government.

At the main meeting places, such as Avenida Paulista in São Paulo, participants were spread out in blocks, not concentrated, and it was possible to move without difficulty.

In Brasilia, members of Congress pointed out that Bolsonaro demonstrated strength in some cities in the Southeast and South, but that, in a broader analysis, mobilizations fell short of anti-government protests.
