President Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) signed on Wednesday (28) a decree that prohibits for 60 days, the use of fire in the country. The measure is a response to the fires that hit the Amazon region and created a crisis for the Brazilian government.
According to the decree, the suspension of fire does not apply to "phytosanitary control when authorized by the competent environmental agency, for fire prevention and fighting practices and subsistence farming practices performed by traditional and indigenous cultures" . The government reports that the measure is "exceptional and temporary" and aims to protect the environment.
