Bolsonaro Suffers Two Setbacks in PSL Political Party Crisis

Crisis between leader of PSL and president stems from internal party disputes

Brasília

Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) suffered two setbacks in the dispute with his party. The leader of PSL, Delegado Waldir, called the president a vagabond and threatened to implode the government in a recorded conversation on Wednesday (16).

In retaliation, Bolsonaro removed Congresswoman Joice Hasselmann as leader of the PSL government in Congress.

The second setback came from Luciano Bivar, president of the PSL. He decided to dismiss Eduardo and Flavio Bolsonaro from their leadership roles in Sao Paulo and Rio.

In the House and Senate, the assessment is that the rift has the potential to undermine the governing agenda in the legislature. With Joice's departure, party leaders believe the administration will have to rebuild dialogue with members of Congress.
