President Jair Bolsonaro followed the example of his predecessors at the Planalto Palace and chose the Aratu naval base in Bahia to spend his first New Year at the helm.

He will depart with his family to the military resort, located 42 km from downtown Salvador, this Friday (27), and return to the federal capital on January 5.

On Wednesday (24), the president's team even considered canceling the trip after he fell and hit his head in one of the toilets of the Planalto Palace. After exams showed that he was fine, the trip was maintained.

Aratu Naval Base is located on the Paripe peninsula, a heavenly corner of Todos os Santos Bay. Surrounded by the Atlantic rainforest, the private beach has white sand and emerald green water.

The place was a favorite destination of former President Dilma Rousseff (PT) during the New Year's Eve and Carnival holidays. The petista spent her the year-end recess four years in a row at the military base.

As his successor, former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) also spent four years running New Year's Eve at the private beach.
