Omissions about Lula's Son Makes Ex-Contractor's Plea Bargain Uncertain

Otávio Azevedo, from Andrade Gutierrez, had not mentioned in the agreement facts about the Oi telephone company and the purchase of the Atibaia country house used by the former president

São Paulo

The whistleblower Otávio Marques de Azevedo, former president of Andrade Gutierrez, omitted irregularities involving one of the children of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in his reports to Lava Jato officials, according to the Federal Public Ministry.  This makes uncertain the future of their collaboration agreement.

Azevedo, A whistleblower four years ago, was the target last December of three search and seizure warrants fulfilled in the Lava Jato phase called Mapa da Mina.

This stage of the task force investigates whether the country house in Atibaia (SP) frequented by the PT was bought with bribe money from the telephone company Oi, through partners of Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, son of the former president. Oi had the Andrade Gutierrez group as one of its controlling shareholders.

Renovations sponsored by contractors on this country house prompted the former president's conviction of corruption and money laundering. In 2010, Jonas Suassuna, partner of Lula's son, bought the country house together with Fernando Bittar (son of Jacó Bittar, Lula's friend). He paid R$ 1 million, and Bittar the rest.

In a petition to the Justice in which it requested the search warrants against the former president of Andrade Gutierrez, the Car Wash Operation stated that, although the businessman signed a collaboration agreement, "he did not deal with the illicit acts narrated in this piece."

"As demonstrated, evidence of its performance were found in the facts under investigation," completes the Curitiba task force.
