Ciro Gomes Blames Bolsonaro for Shooting Attack on his Brother

In an interview with Folha, ex-President candidate says PMs chose city to provoke to their political group

Brasília

In an interview with Folha, the former governor of Ceará blamed President Jair Bolsonaro for the shooting attack suffered by Cid and for the violent situation in the Ceará city.

Ciro Gomes (PDT-CE), 62, argued that his brother, senator Cid Gomes (PDT-CE), 56, was not irritated when he used a backhoe to try to end a mutiny of striking military police officers in the city of Sobral (CE).

He said that fascism should not be fought with flowers or social media activism. He added that the rebel PMs chose Sobral, the Gomes family's hometown, with a political intention of provocation.

"The episode is due to the impotence of the Federal Government and to a scoundrel who transformed the Republic of Brazil into a scoundrel republic called Jair Messias Bolsonaro," he said.

How is Senator Cid Gomes?

It was a big scare, but he is fine. He arrived in Fortaleza and is under observation because one bullet hit and exited, and the other is lodged at the base of the lung.
